Dairy Australia’s (DA) latest milk production reports shows national milk output rose 7% year-over-year in June, taking full seasonal production +1.5% ahead of the prior season. Average milkfat and protein declined, however, down -0.3% YOY and -0.5% YOY, respectively.
Across the states, June output mostly rose ahead of the prior-year comparable — except for South Australia, which continues to experience dry conditions. Victorian production rose 8.6% for the month, finishing 2025-26 +1.9% ahead of the prior season. NSW production rose +5.9% YOY in June, and ending +2.4% ahead for the season. Tasmania’s seasonal output rose +2.6% on the season prior, with June output +5.4% YOY. In SA, production fell -3.6% YOY in June and was 6.0% lower for the season.
DA’s data release contained historical revisions for the past five years after the organisation gained access to a more complete federal dataset. With the revisions, Australia’s milk pool has recorded annual growth since the 2022-23 season.
