The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has commenced its informal review of Bega Cheese’s Fonterra bid. FrieslandCampina and Bega are partnering to acquire segments of Fonterra’s global operations outside Oceania.
The ACCC review examines potential competition concerns and whether a merger could impact competition in the dairy supply chain in relation to raw milk purchasing, milk processing and production. The competition regulator will also look at the potential effects on wholesale supply of dairy products and ingredients to retailers and food service operators of the proposed merger.
ACCC is seeking input from industry stakeholders affected by the proposed acquisition by 15 August and plans to announce its findings in late September 2025.
