The Australian Dairy Products Federation (ADPF) president Grant Crothers said 2020/21 was the third consecutive year of high milk prices for raw milk as processors demand for raw milk continues to be strong. The recent softening of the Australian dollar was good news for local farmgate prices, supporting processors’ decision to “go hard” at opening. The rising trend of opening prices reflected intensifying competition to secure supplier at farmgate in a flat milk pool. Aggressive opening prices are followed by less subsequent step-up activity.
Updated 2021/22 farmgate price data can be accessed at the Milk Value Portal which summarises the range of offers by region, and dependent on supply profile, farm size and milk components.
