August Milk Declines

Milk production fell 3.0% YOY in August with declines across most states. Season-to-date production is tracking 3.4% behind YOY.

In Victoria, intake was -3.6% YOY for the month against a high comparable, with production in the first two months of the 2025/26 season 4.3% lower than the year before. Production fell 4.4% YOY in the state’s west—impacted by lingering dry conditions—while Northern Vic output was down 4.6% YOY. Gippsland output declined 1.9% YOY—on ahigh year-ago comparable.

In NSW production was flat in August, down 0.1% YOY while South Australian production dropped 8.2% YOY due to dry conditions. Milk output in Tasmania bucked the trend, up 1.1% YOY in August against a low year-ago comparable. It’s the first month with YOY growth since March 2025—which in turn was the first month of YOY growth since June 2024.
