Aus Milk Down 1% In December

Australian milk production was down 1% YOY in December, putting season-to-date output 0.9% ahead of the prior year comparable.

Victorian milk was -0.2% YOY in December as the dry conditions in the west, combined with warmer temperatures dragged on production, Victorian production is still 1.6% ahead, for the first half of 2024/25 with Gippsland and the north still ahead of prior year comparatives, by 4.4% and 3.8% respectively. Western Victoria was 3%  for the season to December, with the monthly shortfall even worse at –4.3%.

NSW conditions also worsened in December, with milk down 0.8% for the month, putting the state 3.7% ahead for the season-to-date. In Tasmania milk production in the first half of the season has fallen 4% YOY, with December –2.9%.
