The Australian dairy industry is finding it difficult to compete with cheap dairy imports as consumers reach for affordable options.
Australian Dairy Products Federation (ADPF) are concerned by the growing volume of imported dairy products. According to ADPF, in 2024 one in four dairy products consumed were imported with cost-of-living pressures steering consumers toward private label or discounted products. The rising cost of production makes it difficult for Australian-made dairy products to compete.
Both Woolworths and Coles said the majority of dairy products found in their dairy aisles are Australian. Woolworths said country of origin labelling helps consumers make informed choices.
