Australian exports mixed

Australian cheese exports fell 5.1% to 86,606t in the seven months to January, including a reduction of 8,105t in sales to Japan. Butter and AMF exports rose 121.7% and 38.4% respectively. Combined fat exports (on a commercial butter equivalent basis) were up 90.4% for the period relative to the comparable at 13,441t.

SMP exports increased 13.6% in the seven months to January, with a 7,070t increase in shipments into China & HK but also higher sales into SE Asia (+1,920t). Whey product exports for the period rose 29.1% to 19,684t, reflecting growth into SE Asia (+3,859t) and China & HK (+1,750t). For the season to date, infant formula and FFMP & Mixtures exports declined by 48.9% and 26.6% respectively. WMP exports continued their decline which started in February 2020, with season to date shipments 6% lower relative to the comparable 7-month period.
