by | Oct 7, 2020 | Australia, Volume trends

Australian quantity exports across most product categories we track increased in the August quarter, with the exception of WMP, infant formula and FFMP & mixtures. This followed strong negative trends in 2019/20 when exports fell across all products except for milk & cream.

Cheese exports in the August quarter rose 4.9% to 37,769t, mostly reflecting stronger sales into China & HK and SE Asia. Butter and AMF exports in this period rose 54% and 11% respectively. Combined fat exports (on a commercial butter equivalent basis) in the August quarter were up 35% relative to the comparable at 5,491t.

For the three months ending August, exports of SMP increased 26.8%, driven by an 8,119t combined increase in shipments into SE Asia and China & HK. Whey exports for the August quarter were up 46% YOY due to growth into SE Asia (+2,178t). In the same period, WMP and infant formula exports declined by 21.4% and 41% respectively.
