Australian exports across most products declined for the first eleven months of the 2019/20 season, with milk & cream the only exception. In the first month of 2020/21, trends were mixed, with patchy trends overall for the July quarter.
For the three months ending July, exports of SMP increased 4%, driven by a 4,989t increase of shipments into SE Asia. Whey exports for the July quarter were 30% up YOY due to growth into SE Asia (+1,978t) and China & HK (+567t). Milk & cream was up 3% YOY.
Cheese exports in the July quarter fell 1% to 40,789t, mostly reflecting weaker sales into Japan. Butter and AMF exports in this period declined 3% and 30% respectively. Combined fat exports (on a commercial butter equivalent basis) in the July quarter were down 15% relative to the same period in 2019 at 4,107t.
