Australian milk production fell 3.6% YOY in January, bringing seasonal intake 6.6% behind comparative, according to the latest data from Dairy Australia.
Milk intake was mixed across states with Victoria recording a 4.9% YOY drop in January, meaning seasonal production is now tracking 7.2% behind the prior season. Production in the state’s North dropped 10.2% YOY in January, while Gippsland intake was down 6.0% YOY. Milk output improved in Victoria’s west, lifting 1.3% YOY for the month. In NSW production plummeted 11.0% YOY for the month and is down 11.8% for the flood-affected season. Production in Tasmania trended up, rising 6.2% YOY for the month with seasonal production tracking 0.7% ahead of the prior season.
