Australian output edges up in September

Milk production growth stalled in September, according to Dairy Australia. Output was virtually flat (+0.2% YOY) for the month, taking season-to-date (STD) production 2% ahead of 2019/20. In Victoria, milk output slid 0.4% YOY for the month, leaving the season 2.2% ahead – Gippsland production was down 0.3% (STD 2.0% ahead); Northern Victoria fell 0.6% (STD up 1.5%); and Western Vic was down 0.4% (STD up 2.8%).

September output in NSW was down 1.2%, and only 0.6% ahead STD, while heavy Queensland losses continued as milk collections fell 4.9% in the month. Tasmania and South Australian producers fared better in September, with those states’ output lifting 6.6% and 4.3% respectively.
