According to Dairy Australia, despite weaker raw milk supplies in the 2021/22 season (July-June), cheese production rose 11.3% to 408,246t with cheddar up 26.6% and a 1.9% decline in non-cheddar output.
Production of milk powders declined, however. WMP was down 19.6%, while output of SMP fell 2.1%. Trends for fats were mixed, with a 24% decline for butter and a 15.9% rise for AMF. Among other reported products, whey powder product output rose 1.9% in 2021/22 while manufacture of BMP fell 17.4%.
