Australia’s cheese exports rebounded in September

Australian cheese exports rose to 14,854t in September, a 6-month high and up 31.5% YOY. Shipments into all key destination regions were higher, led by a 98% YOY increase in sales to China & HK. Milk powder shipments were mixed. WMP exports continued to improve on weak comparables, rising 110% YOY in September. China & HK and SE Asia accounted for most of the WMP trade growth with shipments up in every month since February. SMP exports declined 1% in September, to 11,563t. It was still a 5-month high however, with larger volumes shipped into China & HK, SE Asia and the Middle East.

Combined fat exports (in commercial butter equivalent) fell 6.8% YOY in September – the third consecutive contraction after increasing every month between July 2020 and June 2021. Butter shipments fell 22% YOY in September, while AMF was 44% higher YOY.
