Australian manufactured dairy production showed mixed results in March 2026. Cheese recorded the strongest growth, rising 12.0% year-over-year to 39,353 tonnes, while SMP increased a more modest +3.8% YOY to 9,975 tonnes. In contrast, butter production declined 8.9% YOY to 2,250 tonnes and WMP fell —22.1% YOY to 1,440 tonnes, continuing the weaker trend seen for WMP throughout the season.

For the 2025-26 season to March, production remained ahead of last year for most major products. Cheese output increased 1.8% season-to-date to 356,704 tonnes, SMP rose +5.1% for the season to 146,808 tonnes, and butter was +3.2% higher at 31,900 tonnes compared to the season prior. WMP remained the notable exception, with seasonal production down 20.9% to 15,396 tonnes compared with the same period last season.
