The latest climate update from the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) indicates La Niña has peaked. The BoM expects Autumn rainfall to be above median for large parts of Australia below median for western Tasmania. Temperatures are forecast to be warmer for much of the east and southeast, and west coast.
January was wetter than average across northern, central and southeastern parts of Australia, but drier than normal in western Tasmania, and parts of southern Queensland. Soil moisture was above average for most of the country, but drier than average in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria. High streamflows are likely during February to April.
