The latest Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) Climate and Water Outlook for May to July is for above average rainfall for most of Australia, apart from southwest WA and western Tasmania. Warmer than average days are likely for north, west and southeast Australia and warmer than average nights are likely across Australia.
The current La Niña event is forecast to return to neutral by early winter, its wetter influence is likely to continue for now. There’s also an increased chance for a negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) in winter, which is also influencing the outlooks. High streamflows are expected across most forecast sites in the southeast during April to June, but low streamflows are likely in the north.
