China lodge WTO complaint against Australia

China has lodged a complaint against Australia with the WTO, with claims of “anti-competitive behaviour against its exports of railway wheels, stainless-steel sinks and wind towers.” The complaint comes days after Australia took similar action against China over the large tariffs imposed on Australian wine last year. In March China’s Ministry of Commerce confirmed it would impose the anti-dumping measures on Australian wine for a further five years.

Australian trade minister Dan Tehan said Australia will rigorously defend its position at the WTO, noting the measures China is targeting were introduced in 2014 and 2015. In a statement, Chinese commerce ministry spokesperson Gao Feng said there was hope in China that Australia would “rectify its wrongdoings, avoid confrontational measures and bring the two nations’ trade ties back to normal track as soon as possible.”
