Dairy Australia Situation & Outlook

by | Jun 30, 2021 | Australia, News

  • The latest National Dairy Farmer Survey results indicate 88% of respondents will make a profit in 2020/21, the highest proportion since the survey commenced.
  • Almost two thirds of surveyed farmers were positive about the future of the dairy industry, up 20% on last year’s survey.
  • After no growth in milk production during 2020/21, 2021/22 output is expected to increase between 0 and 2% to between 8 and 8.97bn litres. Despite favourable seasonal conditions prospects are tempered by culling and farm exits.
  • Dairy product demand has been healthy, with consumers preferencing branded product. Retail milk sales value increased 5.3%, while spreads increased 3.8% in the 12 months to mid-April.
