Dry Conditions Continue In Tasmania

by | Aug 8, 2024 | Australia, Weather

The latest Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) long-range forecast for August to October is for above average rainfall in parts of south-east Australia with drier conditions expected in south-western Tasmania.

Above average temperatures for both days and nights are forecast across most of Australia with periods of cold weather still on the cards.

Very dry conditions have impacted the growing season in the southeast and southwest of the country—with much of the south very dry since August last year. Parts of Tasmania have experienced warmer than usual temperatures and drier conditions. In the southern parts of Australia, soil moisture is below average. Streamflows are expected to be lower than usual in most areas from July to September but higher in eastern NSW.

Despite warmer than usual ocean temperatures, climate drivers such as the Indian Ocean Dipole and the El Niño- Southern Oscillation are expected to remain neutral until early spring.
