EU-27 exports were mixed in February, with falls in cheese, WMP and AMF but increases in SMP, butter and dry whey. In milk solids equivalent (MSE) terms, total exports fell 0.4% YOY in February and were 2.4% lower over the last quarter.
Overall EU-27 cheese exports were down 5.3% YOY in February to 100,945t, with weaker shipments to China & HK, Japan, North America, MENA, CIS and SE Asia. At 66,275t, SMP exports were up 39% YOY, with stronger shipments to MENA and despite weaker shipments into SE Asia. The tonnage was close to the 2021 mark.
Fats exports were mixed in February – butter rose 4.1% YOY while AMF was 27.4% lower in YOY terms. WMP exports continued to track lower in YOY terms, falling 15.3% in February to 15,610t on lower local manufacture. The YOY decline in February mostly reflected contraction in exports to the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
