Based on 98% of average reported milk production (Sweden data still missing), EU-27 supplies fell 0.4% YOY in June according to Eurostat and AGEA (Italy). EU27 milk output has now declined in 4 consecutive months and in 10 of the last 12 months for which data is available.
The June contraction was relatively lower than in prior months however (-1.3% YOY in May and -1.5% YOY in April), reflecting weaker production in France (-1.4% YOY), Germany (-0.2% YOY) and Ireland (-0.6% YOY). Output in the Netherlands, Poland and Austria increased for the month – up 1.5% YOY, 1.2% YOY and 1.2% YOY respectively. Overall trends are improving, but hot and dry conditions are still expected to have affected supplies in July and August.
According to the most recent data, French milk production fell 2.8% YOY in week 32 this year (ending 14 August 2022), the 5th consecutive weekly contraction. German supplies are close to flat on average since mid-July and rose 0.2% YOY in week 32. AHDB reports UK production declined 1.1% YOY in the first 13 days of August after falling 0.6% YOY in July.
