EU27 milk production was down 1.7% YOY in February (leap-year adjusted) according to Eurostat and AGEA (Italy). Collections in Germany continued to decline YOY, but also fell in France, Ireland, Netherlands and Belgium. Poland remained in expansion mode, albeit at a slower rate than in recent months.
February milk solids fell 0.4% YOY, due to a 0.9% YOY decline for protein while the fat content was in line with the 2024 comparable.
Weekly EU milk supplies are lagging prior year levels in Germany, but with improvements in France over the past few weeks. As the seasonal peak approaches, pasture conditions are generally improving across the major producing countries, although growth indicators are a little below the same time last year. Milk growth could be constrained by the further spread of bluetongue disease as weather gets warmer.
