EU milk growth improved in April

by | Jun 21, 2023 | Global, Volume trends

EU-27 April milk production rose 0.8% YOY, following a 0.4% YOY expansion in March. Among major producing countries, German supplies rose 3.3% YOY for the month. Dutch supplies were also up 3.3% for the month while Denmark and Poland rose by 1.7% YOY and 2.2% YOY respectively. France and Ireland declined however, down 2.1% YOY and 3.3% YOY respectively. We estimate that since December last year, the growth in milk solids has far surpassed the EU-27 milk growth, reflecting good quality of stored feed, high milk prices and favourable margins over feed cost.

According to the most recent data, German supplies were up 1.6% YOY in week 23 (ending 11 June 2023). That was the 40th consecutive weekly YOY increase. UK supplies rose 1.2% in that same week, the strongest reported growth since mid-March. Meanwhile, French milk production fell 4.7% YOY in week 23, the 30th consecutive decline.
