Australian Dairy Farmers (ADF) has praised Australian trade minister Don Farrell for not giving in on geographic indicators (GIs) in negotiations for a free trade agreement between Australia and the EU. ADF president Rick Gladigau is pleased the minister has not caved, calling the EU’s terms restrictive as it deals with tariffs, quotas, GIs, sustainability and deforestation all at the same time. Gladigau said an FTA that doesn’t protect the Australian dairy industry could halt industry growth.
