Fonterra’s May milk collections increased 7.5% YOY in May, ending the season 2.6% above the prior year comparative.
The increase was due to favourable weather across New Zealand, leading to above average pasture growth. North Island intake was +2.6% for the month and up 2.8% for the 2024/25 season. South Island collections were 12.3% higher in May with pasture growth tracking well ahead thanks to above average rainfall and warmer than normal temperatures. The 2024/25 season finished just 2.3% ahead thanks to a slower start.
Meanwhile, Fonterra Australia collected 0.6% more milk in May compared to the same month in the prior year, according to the latest Global Dairy Update.
Collection in the north and east Victoria increased YOY due to good pasture growth and stable herd numbers. However, collections in the west of the state and Tasmania fell due to drier conditions that prevailed for most of the month. Fonterra Australia has collected 101.6m kg of milksolids for the season-to-date, up 1.4% YOY.
