Australia’s annual inflation rate increased to 4.0% in August, up from +3.5% in July, but was somewhat below market expectations.
Housing and transport inflation were the main drives behind the overall trend, while dairy inflation somewhat eased from the prior month but remains relatively high. Trimmed mean inflation was steady at +3.6% for the third consecutive month, and another RBA interest rate hike in November appears less likely.
