Irish milk intake rose 0.9% YOY in August to 925.6m litres according to the Central Statistics Office’s (CSO). Despite the lift in August production, calendar year-to-date production fell 0.3% compared to the same period a year ago, with milk intake totalling 6.586bn litres for the period.
CSO reported milk composition improved YOY with higher fat content of 4.21% in August, compared to 4.19% in August 2021. At the same time, protein content decreased to 3.53% this year, down from 3.54% in August 2021. SMP production lifted 6.2% YOY in August, while butter output only increased marginally to 28,900t for the month, up from 28,800t the year before.
