Irish milk growth slows

Irish milk production rose 1.4% YOY in September. That was the weakest expansion since January, bringing year to date output 3.2% above the prior year comparable. All other countries for which September data is available increased supply in YOY terms except Lithuania. Dutch milk production for the month rose 0.3% YOY, as output recovered after August deliveries were hampered by hot and dry conditions. Among other major producing countries, Poland and Belgium milk production increased by 2.5% YOY and 0.7% YOY respectively.

According to the most recent available data, French milk production fell 1.8% in week 42 (ending 18 October 2020). That was the second consecutive weekly contraction. German supply also fell 0.5% YOY in the same week as production has consistently tracked lower since mid-August. According to daily AHDB milk collections data, UK milk supply rose 1.8% in the first 24 days of October – this followed a 0.7% expansion in September.
