Irish supplies still falling

by | Aug 3, 2022 | Global, Volume trends

Irish milk production fell 0.6% YOY in June to 1,092mn kg – that was the fourth consecutive monthly decline, reflecting strong prior year comparables and dry weather conditions. Netherlands is the only other major producer having published June data on Eurostat – supplies rose 1.5% YOY, which followed 18 consecutive monthly declines. The solids content in Dutch milk continues to stay below the prior year.

According to the most recent data, French milk production fell 0.2% YOY in week 28 this year (ending 17 July 2022). German supply rose 0.3% YOY in that same week, but we expect output in both key producing countries to remain under pressure in coming months with challenging weather conditions (particularly in France) and high input costs. AHDB reports UK production declined 0.8% YOY in the first 23 days of July after falling 2% YOY in June.
