January Cheese Up 0.8%

US cheese production increased 0.8% YOY in January according to the USDA, on an estimated 0.1% fall in manufacturing milk availability. American cheese output rose 0.2% YOY for the month – with a 1.4% decline for cheddar – while “other cheese” (including mozzarella) increased 3.6% YOY.

Combined NFDM and SMP output fell 3.2% YOY in January, with SMP down 37.6% YOY while NFDM increased 11% YOY. Butter production rose 0.5% YOY in January, increasing every month since December 2023. Dry whey output decreased 1.9% YOY for the month, with a 10.4% YOY decline in WPC. WPC 50-89.9% output fell 8% YOY, while WPC 25-49.9% products declined 18% YOY.
