The highest soil moisture on record has been recorded across parts of Qld and northern NSW due to recent heavy rainfall as a result of tropical cyclone Alfred and an inland trough in western Qld. Meanwhile, soil moisture in areas across the south, including key dairy regions of western Tasmania, South Australia and western Vic—where rainfall has been in the lowest 5% of the historical records— is drier than average.
