Australian milk production fell 3.6% YOY in August, falls recorded across most states except for NSW. In Victoria, production was down 4.3% YOY, taking the season to date 4.4% behind last season. Gippsland output fell 2.3% YOY in August, Northern Victoria was down 2.5%, and Western Districts collections dropped 7.1% YOY for the month. NSW recorded a 3.7% YOY lift in production, taking season to date production 2.8% ahead of last year’s comparable. Milk output in Tasmania dropped 12.5% YOY in August, down 10.3% for the season to date.
Meanwhile, Fonterra Australia’s milk intake was down 5.9% YOY to 6.8m kgMS in August, taking season to date collections 0.8% down on the prior year. The decrease in August reflected lower 3rd-party collections which were 66% down compared to last season, while direct farm milk collections were up 2% YOY.
