Australian Milk Down 2.6% In January

Milk production fell 2.6% YOY with warmer conditions impacting most states. Season-to-date milk is still +0.4%, but is likely to fall behind the prior comparative in coming months.

Victorian milk intake fell 3.6% YOY for the month, with the west down 8.6% YOY, with many herds likely drying off early given the tough conditions. The region was  3.6% behind for the season to date. Gippsland intake was down for the first time this season in January, -3.8% YOY for the month and 3.3% ahead for the season. Northern Victoria was up 2.4% for the month and 3.6% ahead for the season to January.

NSW was the only state to record a YOY production increase in January with milk +2.6% for the month and 3.6% ahead for the season so far. In Tasmania, the monthly deficits have reduced over the season, with January down 1.3% and intake 3.5% for the season.
