Milk down 2.9% in Sept

September milk output was down 2.9% YOY according to Dairy Australia. The fourth consecutive monthly decline reflects wet winter and early spring in southern regions.

Milk production in Victoria fell 3.7% YOY in September, taking year to date collections 4.1% behind the prior season. September milk production in western Victoria dropped 5.5% YOY, while Gippsland intake fell 3.8% YOY for the period. Milk intake in northern Victoria was down 1.1% YOY for the month. Tasmania also recorded declining milk production in September, down 7.6% YOY, with season to date production 8.8% behind the previous season. Meanwhile, NSW intake rose 2.4% YOY in September, taking season intake 2.7% ahead of the season prior. South Australian milk production rose 1.3% YOY, but remains 2.0% behind previous season.
