Following an increase in milk production in June, the latest data from DCANZ shows New Zealand’s milk production fell 5.5% YOY in July on milksolids basis and 5.6% YOY on a volume basis.
The large year-on year fall is against a record July intake in 2021. Season to date, production is lagging 2.6% behind the prior year comparative.
Meanwhile, Fonterra’s July intake totalled 19.0m kgMS, down 2.4% YOY driven by a 3.5% YOY fall in North Island milk intake. Milk collections in the South Island increased 9.7% YOY. Very wet conditions persisted across both Islands but while calving created challenges in the North Island, South Island intake was generally comparable to prior season according to Fonterra’s latest Global Dairy Update.
