Australian milk production fell 6.1% YOY in February, with season to date production now tracking 3.0% behind the season prior according to Dairy Australia.
Production in Victoria dropped 7.8% YOY for the month, tracking 3.7% behind the prior season comparable as a result. Milk production plummeted 11.4% YOY in western Victoria, while Gippsland recorded a fall of 9.1% YOY in February. Northern Victoria’s output was down 2.1% YOY for the month. Milk output in Tasmania was down 8.5% YOY for the month, with production 6.7% behind the season before. February production was up 2.0% YOY for the period in NSW, tracking 3.2% ahead of the prior season.
Meanwhile, Fonterra reported its February milk intake in Australia rose 4.9% YOY. Third party volumes and farm collection lifted as new suppliers joined Fonterra. Production for the season to February remains 1.1% behind the prior year comparable.
