European milk supplies improving

According to the most recent data, French milk production rose 0.6% YOY in week 40 this year (ending 9 October 2022), the 4th consecutive weekly rise. German supplies were up 1.4% YOY in the same week and have on average improved 1.2% YOY over the last 5 weeks for which data is available. AHDB reports UK production rose 1.7% in the first 8 days of October after being flat in September.

Based on complete August 2022 data, EU27 raw milk deliveries fell 0.8% YOY. That decline was a 3-month high, with supplies falling YOY in every single month since March, and in 12 of the last 14 months for which data is available. The overall contraction in August reflects weaker supplies in France (-2.5% YOY), Germany (-0.1% YOY), Italy (-6.4% YOY), Denmark (-1.1% YOY) and Spain (-3.6% YOY) and was despite improved output in the Netherlands (+2.2% YOY), Ireland (+0.9% YOY), Poland (+1.9% YOY), Austria (+3.1% YOY) and Belgium (+3.3% YOY).
