EU milk supplies tighten

Milk supply rose 1.2% YOY in December – however Poland is the only key milk producer that has reported December data on Eurostat. There is a slowing trend evident in the second half of 2020. Among other suppliers, milk output in Belgium and the Czech Republic declined by 0.4% YOY and 0.5% YOY respectively.

According to the most recent available data, French milk production fell 4.1% YOY in week 3 (ending 24 January 2021). That was the 16th consecutive weekly contraction. German supply fell 1.6% YOY in week 2, while daily AHDB milk collections data suggest UK’s production slowed to a 0.7% YOY growth in the first 23 days of January after increasing 2.3% YOY in December.
