New Zealand milk solids production increased 17.8% YOY in June 2025 according to DCANZ, against a weak 2024 comparative. The June increase was well ahead of expectations and a record for June, as volumes were seasonally at their lowest. June milk production rose 14.6% on volume basis, another record for June.
NZ milk production for May was revised down to 103.5mkg of milk solids and 987,409t in volume. This brings the YOY change to +7.4% for milk solids and +7.7% for volume.
Factors supportive of pasture growth are near the bottom of historical experience in July, impacted by colder temperatures and increased rainfall. Given strong farmgate prices, and greater incentives for producers to milk through winter should see July supplies also well-ahead of the prior year comparable.
