Milk output fell 2.6% YOY in April on a solids basis, taking seasonal output 0.8% ahead of the prior year. Production fell 1% on a volume basis, tracking 0.5% behind the prior year according to Dairy Companies Association of New Zealand update .
NZX reports production is variable across regions, with continued dry weather seeing some farms dry off cows early. Pasture growth indices have made sharp recoveries at the end of April on both the North and South Island.
With only May production figures to be added before the season ends, NZX predicts a 5.7% YOY drop in solids production in 2023/24.
