The latest Climate and Water Outlook from the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is for above average rainfall from October to December with the chance of La Niña increasing as the Indian Ocean Dipole weakens. Warmer than average temperatures are expected across the tropics and the far south-east while above average rainfall can be expected across the eastern two-thirds of Australia. Conditions are likely to be drier than average in northern WA and southwest Tasmania. The strongest signal for above average rainfall is in October.
This will bring about high and near median streamflows in most forecast locations for September to November. Maximum temperatures for October to December are likely to be above median for the far north of Australia extending down western WA, southern Victoria, and Tasmania (greater than 60% chance).
