Australian milk production declined 2.4% YOY in October on a difficult-to-beat year-ago comparable. Seasonal production is now tracking 2.3% behind the prior year with peak production in the rearview mirror.
October output fell year-over-year across most states. In Victoria, milk output declined 3.0% YOY with falls across all regions; Gippsland (-3.0% YOY), Northern Victoria (-2.0% YOY) and Western Victoria (-3.9% YOY). Season-to-date production is tracking 3.1% behind the prior year. NSW was the only state to record a year-over-year increase in output (+1.6%), with seasonal output +1.2% ahead of the prior year. In South Australia, output declined –8.0% YOY while Tasmanian production only declined -0.4% YOY. Despite the falls, seasonal output remains ahead in both states, +1.2% and +2.0%, respectively.
