Retail Milk Prices Lowered : Prices for private label milk is down between 7c–10c from August following cuts by Aldi, Coles and Woolworths. One litre of private label milk now costs $1.75, while the price is $3.40 for two litres and $4.95 for three litres.
Coles said earlier price rises reflected higher costs, but as pressures ease, prices have been reduced. An Aldi spokesperson said the prices were reviewed to “deliver best prices for customers while maintaining fair relationships with suppliers.”
Farmer organisation EastAUSmilk President Tim Bale called the lower price disappointing and warned it would strip value from farm production. He said there was no transparency about where the extra money went before. Bale said farmers are still facing extremely high fuel costs and transport levies as temporary support payments come to an end.
Australian Dairy Products Federation CEO Janine Waller urged governments to focus on making Australia a competitive place to manufacture food, warning dairy manufacturers cannot continue to absorb rising costs across the supply chain.
