Strong winds and lashing rain unleashed across southeast Queensland and northern NSW last weekend with tropical cyclone Alfred downgraded to a tropical low before landfall Saturday.
In northern NSW dairy regions, 300mm of rain was recorded in less than 24 hours on Friday 100mm daily over the weekend. Dairy farmers in the area were prepared with generators for power outages. Milk processor Norco issued notice to its suppliers milk collections would be cancelled Friday 7 March due to the cyclone.
Over 450,000 properties lost power across the affected region which stretched from Fraser Coast to the NSW border with power restored to more than half of the properties by Monday. Heavy rain fell across the region with flash flooding reported. Supplies of milk and other fresh produce to major supermarkets have been disrupted.
