Cheese production rose 0.2% YOY in June according to the USDA. American cheese output increased 5.1% YOY (with an 8.2% YOY increase for cheddar on a weak comparable) while “other cheese” (including mozzarella) fell 2.8% YOY for the month.
Combined NFDM & SMP output rose 1.2% YOY in June, reflecting a 19.8% YOY rise in NFDM production while SMP output fell 46.1% YOY. Butter production was up 7.8% YOY in June, reflecting higher NFDM output but a slowdown in some regions in cream demand.
Dry whey production fell 1.3% YOY for the month, following a 7.6% YOY contraction in May. June WPC production was up 0.2%, reflecting a continued recovery in output of WPC 50-89.9 products which were 6.7% up YOY.
Lactose production fell 7.9% in June following a strong expansion between Dec-20 and May-21. MPC production increased 1.3% YOY which followed a 42.1% YOY expansion in May. Output of WPIs declined for the second consecutive month in June in YOY terms – down 7%.
