US cheese production rose 1.9% YOY in August according to the USDA, compared to an estimated 0.2% decline in the availability of manufacturing milk. American cheese output fell 0.3% YOY for the month— with a 1% decline for cheddar — while “other cheese” (including mozzarella) increased 3% YOY.
Butter production rose 14.5% YOY in August. Combined NFDM & SMP output fell 10.1% YOY in August, with NFDM up by 2.2% YOY while SMP fell 29.4% YOY. Dry whey production decreased 21.6% YOY for the month with a 1.7% YOY increase in WPC (despite a 3.6% YOY decline in output for WPC 25-49.9% products). WPC 50-89.9% output increased 4.4% YOY. WPI and MPC output continued to surge, increasing YOY in double digit percentage terms in every single month since February.
