US exports weak in May

US dairy exports declined across most major product categories in May, except infant formula, WPC80 and fat-filled milk powder & mixtures. May shipments fell an estimated 13.8% YOY – the fourth consecutive monthly decline in milk solids equivalent (MSE) terms.

Cheese exports were 33,253t in May – down 18.7% YOY, reflecting weaker shipments to Korea, SE Asia, Japan and the Middle East, and despite export growth to Mexico. Dry whey exports also declined for the fourth consecutive month in YOY terms 8.9% YOY, driven by weaker shipments to China & HK which were at a16-month low at 16,823t lower and SE Asian sales.

NFDM/SMP exports also declined in May, down 3.1% YOY to 79,503t, reflecting a fall in shipments to SE Asia and China & HK, and despite increased exports to Mexico. At 2,871t, exports of butter were down 29.5% YOY.
