Warm, Dry Spring Ahead

by | Sep 3, 2026 | Australia, Weather

The Bureau of Meteorology released its Spring climate and weather outlook. Below average rainfall is expected through September, but this will shift as Spring progresses. Above average rainfall is forecast for much of the western half of Australia, while parts of the east and south are likely to be drier than average. There is a high chance of unusually warm days across the southern parts of Australia from September to November.

Sea surface temps are expected to continue warming across the Australian region during Spring, increasing the risk of marine heatwaves, especially around southeast Australia. El Niño is expected to strengthen further into Spring and Summer.
