Wetter, Warmer End of Winter

Above average temperatures across northern, western and south-eastern Australia is forecast for August to October. The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) says above average rainfall is likely (60 to 80% chance) for most of the eastern two thirds of mainland Australia. There is an increased chance of unusually high rainfall for southern Queensland and northern NSW, west of the Great Dividing Range.

However the BoM says there is a weak forecast signal for most of Western Australia, Victoria and Tasmania, including areas affected by prolonged dry conditions. The absence of a strong signal means there is a roughly equal chance of above, below or near-average rainfall, with no strong indication of unusually wet or dry conditions.

Meanwhile, between 10 and 50mmere recorded last week in most of NSW and southern and eastern Queensland, large parts of southern WA, southern and central SA, Victoria and Tasmania. Between 50 and 100 mm were recorded across Tasmania, coastal areas of south-western Western Australia and south-eastern SA, parts of north-eastern and south-eastern NSW and eastern Victoria, and isolated areas of central and south-eastern Queensland.
