Australia: August milk output rise

Milk intake rose 0.8% YOY, in August, bringing season to date collections 0.5% ahead of the season prior. Dairy Australia reported production lifts across most states, except Victoria and Queensland. This marks the fourth consecutive monthly YOY increase in milk production, albeit on lower year ago comparables.

August production in Victoria fell 2.1% YOY, with seasonal production (July – August) down 2.3% on the prior year comparative. In Gippsland, output was flat in August, while milk collections in northern Victoria tracked 0.9% behind YOY. Production in the state’s west plummeted 4.6% YOY. Despite the significant fall in Victorian production, August output rose 1.1% YOY in NSW, taking output for the season so far 9.9% ahead of prior year. Tasmanian output rose 6.5% YOY in August, bringing season-to-date production 4.3% ahead of the comparable.
